Score history
Sephora sits at the center of beauty retail, competing on product breadth and the kind of guided recommendation that shoppers increasingly ask assistants for directly: what works for this skin type, what pairs with that shade. Whether an agent can actually reach and read a Sephora product page is a precondition for showing up in those answers at all.
This is a partial report: the scanner was blocked by Sephora's bot protection before it could evaluate most of the site. What did get through is a mixed but not hopeless picture. robots.txt does not explicitly block AI crawlers, a sitemap is reachable, and HTTPS is set up correctly with a clean redirect. But the homepage itself returned a bot-challenge page instead of real content to the scanner's request, which is worth stating plainly: the site blocks scanners, and real AI agents attempting the same request are very likely to hit the same wall. Because of that block, four more checks, structured data, meta tags, content negotiation, and readability, could not be evaluated at all.
A blocked scanner is not neutral information. It is itself the finding: whatever Sephora's underlying markup looks like, an agent that never gets past the front door never finds out.
What Sephora gets right
- robots.txt does not explicitly block AI crawlers.
- A sitemap is published and reachable.
- HTTPS is reachable and HTTP redirects to it cleanly.
What is missing
- The homepage returns a bot-challenge page to the scanner, the same wall that stops real AI shopping agents before they ever see a product.
- No agents.md, llms.txt, or llms-full.txt, so even a visitor that gets past the challenge has no plain-language guide to what Sephora sells.
- No MCP server card and no .well-known/verified.md, so nothing confirms Sephora's identity to an agent or offers a way to interact with it beyond browsing.
- Structured data, meta tags, content negotiation, and readability could not be evaluated at all, because the bot challenge blocked the scanner before it reached the page.
